One of the major sources of stress and anxiety comes from feeling as if your life is out of control, but it doesn't have to feel that way.
Knowing the difference between Anxiety and Stress can ensure you get the help you need, and there is a fine line when looking at the definition and effect of the two. Both are explained by the APA (American Psychological Society) as being emotional responses. However, stress is most often triggered externally.
External triggers can be short term issues such as a disagreement with a loved one or a work deadline. Long term triggers could be situations such as a chronic illness, bullying or being unemployed
Anxiety can be defined in many ways; however, it is best described as persistent, excessive worries that don’t go away even without a known source of stress or trigger. Anxiety is normal in stressful situations such as during exams, speaking in public and undertaking activities that could cause harm are just a couple of examples. When feelings of anxiety become excessive or unmanageable and interfere with our daily lives, it is an indicator of a potentially more significant underlying illness. Societal events can cause or add to existing anxieties. We cannot change the event, but we can control how we deal with it and process it.
Stress can be defined as any change/action/event that causes physical, emotional or psychological pressure. Stress is your body telling you attention or action is necessary and that attention or action may create discomfort. Some reported symptoms of people experiencing stress are irritability, anger, tiredness, gut issues and trouble sleeping. Everyone experiences stress to some degree; however, your response to stress makes a big difference to your overall welfare.
